Here is a bit of History on Karate and Busido

Karate began as a common fighting system known as te (Okinawan: ti) among the Pechin class of the Ryukyuans.  Is thought to have it's roots in India and China and eventually making it's way to Okinawa. After trades were established with of China in 1372,some forms of Chinese martial arts were introduced to Okinawa from China's visitors, particularly Fujian Province. A large group of Chinese families moved to Okinawa by 1392 for cultural exchange, and they established a wide variety of Chinese arts and sciences, including the Chinese martial arts. The political atmosphere of Okinawa in 1477 lead to the policy of banning weapons.

Many people think that Karate is a Japanese art, but it wasn't brought to Japan until 1922 by Master Gichin Funakoshi.
